Will a Marriage Make it When There is no Trust?

A marriage is like many other things in life, you get out of it what you put into it. Many people get married with the unrealistic view that because they are so in love, there with be no problems in the marriage. It doesn’t matter how strong the love is, the reality is problems with occur at times. While most marriage problems are not serious enough to cause lasting damage to the relationship, other problems can and do destroy marriages. Cheating and lying both destroy trust and create serious problems between the husband and wife. Will a couple be able to make it when there is no trust between them?

Trust is easily the most important ingredient in a successful marriage. Without trust there is really no way for a marriage to make it for very long. Lack of trust creates doubt, confusion and uncertainty that destroy the relationship. There is no way a couple can be happy when one or both of them lack trust in the other. Life becomes a day to day worry of wondering what the other spouse is up to whenever the couple are apart.

While there is no way a marriage will make it without trust, there is a way to regain trust and make the marriage stronger than it has ever been. Sitting down with each other and admitting that the trust is gone is one of the fist steps on the road to regaining trust in each other. You must then decide how to work through the problem that created the lack of trust in the first place. Some couples will be able to work through the issue without professional help while others will greatly benefit from the help of a professional counselor.

Remember that trust is hard to rebuild and don’t expect overnight results. There will be days that the worry and doubt will be gone and then it will suddenly reappear. If you continue to deal with the issues you will find that you will see longer and longer periods of time that you are free of doubt and worry. Once you know that you honestly feel trust for your spouse again, your marriage will once again be on stable ground.
