One of the most common molds found in the home is mildew, and proper mildew removal techniques are necessary to keep this mold at bay. Mildew can creep in anywhere where there is an abundance of moisture and darkness. It thrives on organic materials and can make a meal out of just about anything that falls within that category. Mold and mildew removal can sometimes be a difficult task. This is because not only do you have to remove all visible mildew, but you have to kill and remove spores and specimens that may have worked themselves deep into whatever material they are living on and eating. There are quite a few removal products out there, and most of them will get the job done. These products are specifically formulated for both killing, and cleaning the mildew stain. It’s crucial that the fungus is killed; simply cleaning the visible mold will not prevent it from returning. There are also various home made concoctions that are said to remove mold and mildew, but their effectiveness is questionable, and you’re probably better off just purchasing a suitable product.
Mildew Removal From Wood
Removing mildew from wood can be quite difficult, as the mildew will tend to get itself pretty worked into the wood. Mildew thrives on cellulose, which is the matter that makes up the walls of plant cells. Obviously this is going to be found in abundance on wooden objects. The best thing is to catch the mold early. Use a suitable removal product to clear all the mold away, and monitor the spot to ensure that it does not grow back. If it does grow back you may have to take additional steps like removing and replacing the affected pieces of wood, or shaving away some layers of the wood to eliminate the deep-rooted mildew. If the problem is bad enough, or affecting parts of your house that are integrated into the structure, you might be better off calling in a professional.
Bathroom Mildew Removal
Removing mildew from your bathroom is a rather simple process because it can’t work itself as deeply as it can in wood. While it might be impossible to eliminate mold completely from your bathroom due to the constant moisture, you can take steps to prevent growth like improving the ventilation. Standard mold removal products will generally eliminate bathroom mold, and even home-made mildew removal solutions do a fair job. If it has worked it’s way deep into the caulking or grout in your bathroom, you may have to go as far as removing and repairing the area, but that is generally still easier than dealing with mildew on wood.
The best mold removal tactic is actually early detection and prevention. If you take the steps to properly clean and kill the fungus before it has had time to get itself rooted, your job of eliminating the mildew will be quite a bit easier, and the chances of it returning are significantly reduced.
