Portland Oregon Living Conditions and History

If you are considering a move to the West Coast, then you should keep Portland in mind as a possible destination. This article will give you a brief overview of the history and living conditions that you can expect in this beautiful area. After learning a little about the area I highly recommend that you check out the current Portland Oregon real estate market to see if this is the right place to call home.

Portland History

This city is an astonishing place to live. It is known for being the most green city in the nation and second in the world. Portland started as a place called “the clearing”, on the banks of the Willamette River. William Overton bought the 640 acre property for 25 cents which was even a bargain for that time period. A coin toss was used to decide the name, which now sits on display in the Oregon Historical Society and is called the Portland Penny. Now that you know some history of this grand city you may want to know why you should live here.

Living Conditions

Portland Oregon has some of the most unsurpassed climate conditions available in the United State. My mother was born and raised there and has told us all stories of how she could drive 20 minutes and go snowboarding in the morning, go home eat lunch and drive another 20 minutes to go swimming in the afternoon sometimes year around. Summers in this city are sunny and dry average no higher than 70 degrees. If you have ever lived in Texas you can’t help but love that. The winters are cool and moist but it rarely freezes. Besides the amazing weather the city is beautiful and an entertaining place to live. You can enjoy all the rose gardens and parks. This city has at least ten performing arts institutions. There are numerous breweries, sporting events and museums to be visited. If you like basketball you can see the Trail Blazers while you’re there.

Needless to say this beautiful city has many things to do and is a wonderful place to live. My husband and I are looking here for our next home. My only suggestion is that you will to. Contact your personal real estate agent or look online for an internet provider that can help you find what you’re looking for. There are many different price ranges just look and see what you like.
