Every year brings us some hot new kitchen gadgets to keep an eye on. This year, there are 3 that I think are going to be huge. This isn’t necessarily a function of their utility, but rather their marketing prowess. These kitchen gadgets are the Babycakes cake pop maker, the Sodastream soda maker, and (and this one isn’t really new) Keurig coffee makers.
Only a short year or two ago, fancy cupcakes were taking the baking world by storm. They are still quite popular, but the big up and comer in the baking word are cake pops. This, of course, creates a new market for new products, and one such product is the Babycakes cake pop maker. This little machine makes perfect litte cake pop balls every time, though the “equator” of the ball might need a little trimming. With the growing popularity of cake balls, naturally a cake pop machine is going to ride along on that popularity.
Another new product that is gaining popularity is home soda makers. This not only due to the popularity of a certain food though (soda), but also a result of people’s dissatisfaction with the soda industry, and the fattening ingredients they use in making their products. This perfect love/hate storm has popularized the home soda maker. Due what seems to be a huge marketing budget, the Sodastream is probably going to be really huge this year, despite the fact that the iSi Twist N’ Serve is actually a better product. While the Soda stream lists for about 100 bucks, you can usually find the iSi for around $50.
Finally, while the Keurig coffee machine might not exactly fall into the realm of new or even unique kitchen gadgets, this silly little machine has been and will continue to make huge gains in the coffee market. This machine taps into the world’s coffee addition, and it shows no sign of slowing down. While it make coffee consumption more expensive, it makes it way more convenient. and it seems to have hit a nerve with coffee consumers everywhere. 2012 is going to be an even bigger year for this company than years past.
There is is, 3 kitchen gadgets to keep an eye on in 2012. Some more unique or useful than others, but all of them are looking to have big sales numbers in 2012.
